Is Saalt period underwear right for you? Care and buying advice

By Linkcallan Editorial · Updated Oct 6, 2026
THE QUICK ANSWER

Saalt is worth considering if you want washable period underwear in a cut you already like. Its choice of styles is a strength; cold washing and air drying are the main practical commitment. If that routine does not suit you, a different period product may be a better fit.

Folded blue and neutral garments with cotton stems.

What makes Saalt worth considering?

You do not have to settle for one underwear shape. Saalt offers different cuts and absorbency levels, letting you choose a pair around the clothes and period products you already use. For a first order, our style guide narrows the choice to Brief, Bikini and CloudShort.

Worth considering if…Less appealing if…
You want washable underwear for period days or backupYour current period underwear already does everything you need
You know the cuts you like and are willing to measureYou want to buy a large pack without trying the fit
Cold washing and air drying fit your routineYou need everything to go through the same hot dryer cycle

Seamless is not a cotton-body collection

The Seamless Bikini’s body is 62% polyamide and 38% elastane. If cotton is a priority, check a cotton style instead of assuming all period underwear uses the same fabric.

For the differences between Seamless and Comfort, see the fabric and fit comparison. The absorbent lining and the body fabric serve different purposes.

Will the care routine work for you?

  1. Rinse after use in cold water.
  2. Hand wash or machine wash cold.
  3. Skip fabric softener, bleach and ironing; hang the pair to dry.

If you do laundry once a week, think about where used pairs will be rinsed and where washed pairs will dry. That day-to-day routine matters more than buying every color at once.

What to look for in your first pair

Try the pair when you can change easily. Does the waistband sit where you want it? Do the leg openings stay in place as you move? Does the coverage suit the clothes you wear? Those are useful reasons to repeat an order—or choose a different cut.

There is no single changing schedule for everyone: your flow and the chosen absorbency matter. For the separate question of chemical testing, see our Saalt PFAS guide.

What happens if the first pair is not right?

Saalt’s 90-day policy distinguishes unused, unopened items from the first pair you try. Unopened items in their original sealed packaging are eligible for a refund; the first tried pair can receive store credit. Open one pair first so you retain the options for the rest.

Return shipping is another cost to consider. For purchases from Saalt’s website, its policy says customers who decline the optional return-shipping and package-protection service pay return shipping and any exchange-order shipping. If you need a cash refund after trying the product, the store-credit option will not meet that requirement.

When does a bundle make sense?

A bundle is worth considering when it contains the cuts, sizes and absorbencies you already want. Compare its total with buying those same pairs separately. An extra pair you will not use does not become good value just because it unlocks a discount.

If your existing period underwear fits well and does the same job, keep using it. If you are ready to try Saalt, use the size guide to choose your first pair.
